Hal A. Looney, 96, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 in Odessa, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home with Willard Machen officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Hal was born in Tishamingo, Oklahoma to W.V. and Eula Looney on November 30, 1919. He grew up in Oklahoma City where he attended Oklahoma City High School. He married Sara Jean Frisch on July 24, 1943 in College Station, Texas. He graduated from Oklahoma State University where he played fullback for the OSU Cowboys. Prior to Hal's graduation from OSU he was a Second Lieutenant in the US Air Force during World War II. He was employed by Imperial Metallic Lubricants Corporation for 25 years as their global sales director for the Oil & Gas Division. Hal was a Native American Indian and an active voting citizen of the Chickasaw Indian Nation.
Hal had a great passion for physical fitness and was a great competitor. He was an avid golfer all his life and a current member of the PGA Senior Amateur Golf Association. After his retirement he traveled the US competing on the PGA Senior Amateur tour. He also enjoyed attending a variety of sporting events during his lifetime and the opportunity to travel. He had a great desire for helping people and was always willing to share his experience, strength, and hope.
Hal is preceded in death by his wife Sara Jean Looney; parents Eula and W.V. Looney; brother Victor N. Looney, and grandson Stephen Hal Looney II.
Left to cherish his memory include his son Stephen Hal Looney; daughter Stephanie Jean Looney; grandson Hal Edwin Todd, and granddaughter Sara Jean Todd.
Memorials may be given to MDS Foundation.
