Harold Covert

Harold Samuel Covert, 90, of Odessa, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2014 in Odessa.

Visitation will be between the hours of 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM, Wednesday, March 15th at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 6801 E Business 20, Odessa, TX 79762.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 16th, in the Chapel at Sunset Memorial Gardens with David Miller of Crescent Park Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Harold S. Covert was born in Jefferson, Ohio to John Covert and Esther Teegarden on November 15, 1923. He graduated High School in Ohio in Spring 1942. He was a Technician Fifth Grade in the 914th Ordnance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Company during World War II, serving in Germany and France. After the War ended in Europe, he was on his way to Japan when the War ended in Asia. Harold was District Sales Manager for Western Southern Life Insurance in Odessa, Midland, and Big Spring for 22 years.

Harold was a devoted Father and spent time with his three sons and their friends playing baseball and basketball in the back yard, and bowling in local leagues. One Christmas Eve, Harold installed a basketball goal as a gift to his youngest son, and couldnt resist staging a pickup game with his two older sons and one of their friends until well after Midnight Harold particularly liked to play cards and board games until the wee hours. He was really tough to beat at Hearts and Handsome Harold wasnt above taking all your money at the Poker table.

Harold Covert is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Wanda Veronica Covert Czesak, youngest son, Gregory Scott Covert, second wife, Jennie Choate, and siblings, Mary, Doris, Clarence, and Jeanie.

Harold is survived by oldest son, Jeffrey Lynn Covert and wife Jeanette, second son Michael Allen Covert and wife Grace, sister Naomi Covert, former wife Ethel Corzine, friend Vivian Reeves, grandsons Corey Bostic, Andrew Covert, and Paul Covert, great granddaughters Harper and Zoe Bostic, and many nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Covert, Van Hill, Harry Lindenberg, Jerry Mitchell, Tommy Whitney, and Brent Womack.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Hospice House Foundation Inc., 903 N Sam Houston Ave., Odessa TX 79761.
