Harold Mccullough

Harold Deane McCullough, 83, of Odessa, passed away on August 9, 2014, at his home surrounded by his wife of 62 years, his children and grandchildren.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 67:30 PM at Sunset Funeral Home. Also the family will receive friends at noon before the service at 1 PM on Thursday.
Funeral Services will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home at 1 pm on Thursday, August 14, 2014. Pastor Terry Tamplen of First Methodist Church will be officiating with words from Pastor Beth Harrington of Monahans, Jim Britton of Hobbs, and grandson, Matt Loyd. Graveside services will be on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 10 AM at Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche, TX. Lunch will follow the graveside services.
Harold was born in Comanche County, Texas on January 24, 1931 to Thurmon and Irma Williams McCullough. Irma died 3 years later. Harold always remembered Irma and had clear memories of her. Thurman married Ona Mae Harris and they raised Harold Deane and added sister JoAnn McCullough Mann deceased and brother, Gary McCullough, who resides in Comanche.
Harold finished high school in Comanche and attended McMurry University in Abilene for one year before being drafted into the Army in 1951 and served at several bases in the US during the Korean Conflict. Harold married Marjorie Nell Harkins of Comanche in March of 1952. Their children are Arleene, James and Gail. After the army, Harold moved to West Texas and began his career in the oil and gas service business with National Supply. They were transferred throughout West Texas living in McCamey, Crane, Monahans, Andrews, Odessa and Oklahoma City. Harold retired after 30 years with National Supply and began a second career with Unichem in Hobbs, NM, where they lived for almost 30 years. While in Hobbs, Harold served on the Board of the Salvation Army and of Humphrey House. He was a member of St. Pauls Methodist Church and served on the finance committee. Harold spent many years working with Quail Unlimited, serving in several leadership positions, working to maintain the quail habitat.
Harold was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors and taught his children and grandchildren to hunt and fish from an early age. There were always hunting dogs in the family and in later years a special rabbit hunting and house dog named Molly. Hunting, fishing, boating and camping were always a big part of the family.
Survivors include wife Marjorie, daughters Arleene Loyd, Gail Zarafonetis and husband John Patke son James and wife Nancy McCullough. Grandchildren include Kelley and Matt Loyd and Jamie Kidd and Kandice McCullough. One great grandchild Eli Kidd.
