Hazel Doris Tyer Edmondson, age 91, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great gran friend. She passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 in Kingwood, TX. A strongwilled and confident woman, Doris devoted her life to her husband and family.
She was born on August 25, 1923, in Wynne Arkansas. She was the only child of Woody Beatrice Sifford Tyer and Dave A. Tyer who both preceded her in death. She graduated from Wynne High School and attended William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri, receiving an A. A. degree. There she met her future husband, Paul James Edmondson. They wed on June 17, 1943, and were married for 48 years until his passing on April 7, 1992. He became a general surgeon and most of their lives together were spent in Odessa, Texas.
Paul and Doris had three children. Twin boys: James A. Edmondson, D.D.S., John E. Edmondson, and a daughter, Kay Carol Edmondson Grissom. Grissom and his wife, Linda, and Kacey Grissom Knox and her husband, Jarred four great grandchildren: Tyler Harris, Christina Cole, Lauren and Alyssa Grissom a sisternlaw, Thelma T. Ann Beeson, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In 1956 Doris accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and is now with Him in Heaven as His Word promised her. The family grieves the loss of her presence, yet rejoices knowing we will see her again someday. She loved attending church when she was able, reading devotionals and being with her Christian friends.
While living in Odessa, Doris became well known for her gracious luncheons and dinner parties and was a real fashionable of her day. She had a truly amazing gift and ability to select just the right ensemble and when she entered a room or event, every head turned as every eye became focused on her beauty and style. She enjoyed sewing many of her own outfits and millinery projects which she wore with such flair. During her younger years, she performed ballroom dancing and was known for her fantastic trophywinning rumba. An extra closet held many of her lovely ball gowns. She traveled to many European countries and faraway place for several years. She also enjoyed needlepoint, crewel embroidery and playing bridge, and decorating her home. She began using the now popular leopard print to accent her home at least 35 years ago.
In November of 2011, she moved to Rosemont Assisted Living in Kingwood, TX, to be closed to her daughter, where she made many new dear friends.
