Helen McMahon 83, of Odessa passed away on March 27, 2009 in Odessa, born in Lubbock, TX on Sept 11, 1925.
She grew up in Tahoka, TX and graduated from Texas Tech as member of Kappa-Kappa-Gamma. In 1948, she married Bayard McMahon, an attorney, who established his Odessa law firm in 1946. As a long standing member of the community, Helen served as an Elder and a Deacon for Westminster Presbyterian Church and on the boards of the Odessa Symphony, Permian Playhouse, Permian Basin Rehabilitation Center, a Hospice organization and the American Red Cross of Odessa. She was a sustaining member of the Odessa Junior League, President of the Permian Basin Womens Golf Association and a lifetime member of the Odessa County Clubs Golf Association. She contributed twenty years of volunteer service to Meals on Wheels.
Helen was a member of the Ladies of the Attic, a group of women who banded together over many years as artists, each with distinctive talent of their own. Helen was a lover of people, art, bridge, golf and her church.
She is survived by her children, George and Karin McMahon and two grand children, Maston and Giovanna from Oxford, CT, Mark McMahon from Dallas, Phyllis McMahon, and Marcia and Hal Martin of Miami, Florida.
Helen loved life and gave graciously to all those in her life. Helen was loved by many and will always sparkle plenty in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memories to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Meals on Wheels or a charity of choice. Memorial services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4901 Maple Ave., Odessa, TX at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 31.2009 with Bob Samms officiating.
