Herbert Douglas H. D. Haston
H. D. Haston passed away Monday, December 29, 2014 at his residence in Odessa, Texas. He was 81 years old.
Born in Cottle County, Texas on Feb. 5, 1933 to Haskell and Eunice Haston, H. D. was one of eight children. He lived on the family farm and attended school in Paducah, Texas. He left the area when he joined the Army, where he served in Germany. After leaving active service, he was in the Reserves until 1962.
In 1959, he married Billie Jean Love. H.D. and Billie had known each other since childhood. He said many times that he did not know what kind of man he would have turned out to be if he had not married Billie. But, he was sure a better man for having done so After a very short stint in California, they set up residence in Odessa, Texas, where H. D. and Billie raised three children, Douglas, Joe and Barbara.
H. D. worked in the oil fields almost all of his life, working for many companies and holding many positions. He started as a roughneck on drilling rigs, and worked his way to driller, toolpusher, and finally to supervising companies. His last job was for Arena Drilling, where his rigs were consistently on the top of the heap in terms of total feet drilled for the year. In his work in the oil fields, he touched many peoples lives, and was a source of inspiration to many.
H. D. is survived by his wife of almost 56 years, Billie, and his two sons, Douglas Haston of Sulpher Springs, Texas, and Joe Haston and his wife Carla of Odessa, Texas. He also has three grandchildren who he adored: CodySam Davis and his wife Amanda who he also adored of Carrollton, Texas, Renee Flaherty and her husband Jay Schweikert of Arlington Virginia, and Catie Haston, of Odessa, Texas. He had four great grandchildren: Rush Davis, Aurora Davis, and the twins, Josephine and Jocelyn Davis. He also is survived by his sister, Viola Evers, of Roby, Texas. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara, and his other brothers and sister. He also had numerous nieces and nephews.
