Homer Fisher Pittman
Homer Fisher Pittman, age 84, of Odessa, left this world to be with his beloved Marie on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. He will forever be in our hearts.
Homer was born in Mounds, Oklahoma on October 6, 1926, and moved to San Francisco, joining the Merchant Marines with his brother Johnny during World War II. In March 1948, he met Marie Knight and they were married 6 months later in Van Horn, Texas on September 23, 1948. For 35 years, he worked in the oil industry and retired as a field foreman with Amoco Production in 1984. He was a Master Mason in Good Standing of Goldsmith Lodge, No. 1276 for over 50 years.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, making sure he taught his family how to be good and kind, and how important it was to do the right thing. A man of strong principles and character, he always stood up for what he believed in. He and Marie were always there for anyone in times of need. They were the cornerstone of our family. Fishing and hunting were two things he enjoyed most. Homer was the greatest of storytellers full of life lessons, recalling names, dates and places with remarkable detail.
He always captured our hearts and our interests.
Homer was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Marie Knight Pittman and his brothers, Shade Pittman and Johnny Pittman. He is survived by his daughter and soninlaw, Connie and Bob Ramsey of Irving, Texas daughter and soninlaw Pam and Gene Burkhaulter of Odessa, Texas four grandchildren, Lunda RamseyRomeo of Salem, Mass., Ruthi RamseyCaldwell of Honolulu, Hawaii, Matthew Burkhaulter and Braden Burkhaulter, both of Odessa his sister and niece, Virginia Colvin and Lunda Corcoran, both of Odessa.
A memorial service will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to a brief inurnment at Sunset Memorial Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
