Hugh Hewett

Hugh Andrew Hewett, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away in his sleep at home on Sunday morning, May 15.

Hugh was born in Skellytown, Texas, on September 22, 1931, to Howard C. Hewett and Nellie Van Houten Hewett, the first of seven children. He married Alma Jane Watkins in Monahans on April 25, 1953. They shared 58 happy years together until she passed away earlier this year. Hugh and Alma raised two daughters, Della and Holly.

After the war he returned to West Texas, where he worked in the oil fields for nearly 35 years, including two years in Iran. A serious injury on a drilling rig forced him to retire from the occupation he was always so proud of. In retirement, he taught himself to build and maintain computers. He pursued that hobby for the rest of his life and was always available to help friends and family resolve their computer problems.

Hugh was an active member of Resurrection United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the VFW. In later years, he and Alma enjoyed travelling to reunions of Hughs Korean War units.

Hugh is survived by his daughter Holly Hewett of Odessa his daughter Della Brown and her husband Bill Brown of Herndon, VA his grandsons Andrew and Eric Brown his sister Dorothy Hamilton his brothers and their wives Thomas Hewett Faye, Jack Hewett Barbara, Everette Hewett Wanell, Joe Hewett, and Albert Hewett Nancy numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
