Ilse Hertzstell Lewis of Midland, Texas, passed away on January 23, 2019. She was born in Berlin, Germany, on February 27, 1926, and met and married her husband Fred while he was stationed in Germany and was serving in the United States Army.
Isle is preceded in death by her husband in 2014, she is survived by her son Ralph Lewis and wife Deborah of Kerrville, her daughter Carolyn Mayo and husband Bob of Greenwood; grandchildren, Monte Mayo, Angie Lough, Jennifer Fleming and Brent Lewis, and seven great grandchildren.
Ilse was a wonderful, devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed. Most of her years were spent in Odessa where she was an avid Mojo football fan. She also enjoyed camping, sewing, reading, playing games, and especially travelling. Although Ilse revisited Germany numerous times and cherished the memories of her beautiful homeland, she considered becoming a U.S. citizen on January 27, 1953, to be the proudest moment of her life.
A private family service is planned to honor Mrs. Lewis' passing.
Ilse's family would like to thank Carla Sisco, a dear friend, for her constant support and loving care of Nana over the past few years. Our thankful appreciation also goes to Hospice of Midland.
Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. To send family condolences please sign her guestbook at www.sunsetodessa.com.
