Imogene (Jean) Hammett, 96 of Odessa passed away May 22, 2015 at Madison Health Resort and Rehabilitation.
Graveside service will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Reverend Dr. Jimmy Braswell, officiating. Burial will follow.
Imogene (Jean) Hammett was born a twin in Manson, Arkansas on July 6, 1918 to Alonzo S. Going and Pearl C. Holt Going. She attended school in Luther, Oklahoma and played basketball.
Imogene met and married A.C. Hammett in Odessa, Texas on October 26, 1956 at Chapel of the Roses by Reverend J.B. Dolan. She attended LVN school, graduating in 1963. She was employed at MCH and High Plains Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.
Imogene loved antiques and was an avid bowler. She earned many trophies while traveling many states for tournaments. Imogene was a member of Temple Baptist.
Imogene is preceded in death by her husband, A. C. (Slim) Hammett, both her parents, Alonzo S. Going and Pearl C. Phillips, three brothers (twin) Alonzo S. Going, Charley A. Going and Duel Going, and one granddaughter Beverly Jean Worthington.
Imogene is survived by her only child Geraldine (Gerri) and her husband John F. Briggs; stepdaughter Shirley and her husband Donny Banard; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to many years of home care by Comfort Keepers Darlene Culp and Janet as well as her granddaughter Patti Bishop who gave complete care from January until March 5, 2015. A sincere thanks to Dr. Ortega, Dr. Stephen Riley and nurses on the 5th floor at Odessa Regional Medical Center.
