Irma Lucille Hunnicutt, 92, of Odessa, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2023. Her devotion to her family, as well as a firm belief in God, supported her in this earthly life and has ultimately given her peace.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 10:30am at Sherwood Church of Christ with Barry Galindo and Taylor Robles officiating. A graveside service will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Lucille was born in Weatherford, OK to Florence Houston Walton and Edward Walton on September 5, 1930. When Lucille was young her father suffered a short illness and passed away at an early age. Lucille’s mother later remarried William Troxel who committed himself to the role of father and later “Grandad.”
Lucille was one of five children that Florence and William (Bill) shared together. Lucille was blessed with a large and loving family. She married Robert (R.B.) Hunnicutt on September 12, 1948 and they shared almost 68 married years together before passing in August 2016. Besides taking care of her family, Lucille served in many capacities. She was a Bible class teacher and a Girl Scout leader. Her and R.B. hosted many preachers, missionaries and other Christian brothers and sisters in their home over the years. It wasn’t unusual for R.B. to call or come home and surprise her with the news that he had invited someone to dinner. She always managed to make it work and the guest(s) were treated as if it had been well planned. Lucille was a wonderful cook and baker. She enjoyed sewing and created numerous garments for her children and grandchildren. Her husband worked in the oilfield throughout Texas, New Mexico, and Mississippi. They moved often the first 20 years of their marriage. A new job opportunity brough them to Odessa in 1969 and it has been home ever since. They found their church home and family at Sherwood Church of Christ at the same time. They both served and worked beside their Christian brothers and sisters until health issues brought that to an end.
Lucille is survived by her four children: daughter Joye Grime of Lawton, OK, daughter Sharon Perry and husband Ken of Abilene, TX, son Bob Hunnicutt of Albuquerque, NM, and daughter Heather Boykin and husband Darryl of Odessa, TX. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Sherwood Church of Christ or Odessa Christian School. The family of Lucille Hunnicutt would like to extend much gratitude to Brookdale Senior Living for her care the last 3 ½ years, Star Hospice Healthcare and numerous doctors and healthcare workers. Also, to our wonderful extended family and friends of Sherwood Church of Christ. Arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
