Jack Greasy Lewis Nelson, age 74, of Odessa, passed away March 24, 2013 in Odessa, Texas.
He was born October 15, 1938 to Emmit and Vera Nelson in Odessa and was a life long resident of Odessa. He married the love of his life, Nelda Willett on December 6, 1959 in May, Texas and enjoyed 54 years of marriage. Jack owned and operated D J Automotive with Nelda for over 40 years before retiring in 2007. Jack was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman throughout his life. His four grandchildren were the apple of his eye, each having a special bond with him through soccer, golf, football, fishing or breakfast at Dumplings. He cherished their time together.
He is preceded in death by is parents, three sisters, Babe Williamson, Thelma Montgomery, and Pat Barton.
Greasy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nelda son, Brian Nelson and partner Lance McNiel, daughters Melissa and husband Trent Yates, Lisa and her husband Kirk Strahan, four precious grandchildren, Barrett Yates, Paige Strahan, Branson Yates and Austin Strahan. He is also survived by sisters, Gwen Edwards, Grace and husband David Gober and Brother Sonny and wife Marlene Nelson, and his sisterinlaw, Wanda Toler, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 78 PM at Sunset Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Robert Bratcher officiating.
The family would like to thank the 4th floor CCU staff at Medical Center Hospital and the staff at Home Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Home Hospice House or Visiting Angels.
