James Wesley Allen passed away June 15, 2010 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
James was born April 1, 1927 in Blue Oklahoma to Otis Allen and Ophia McMennamy Allen. He graduated from Southside High School in Altus, Oklahoma in 1945 and was inducted into the U.S. army 18 days later where he served as a Medical Technician during the remainder of World War II. James married Letha Sykes Allen in Rocky, Oklahoma in 1951.
James was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church and has served as usher, greeter, chairman of the board, trustee, finance committee, a member of the 8 am adult Sunday school class as well as numerous other positions. He was a member of the American Legion. James was a Territory Manager for William Cameron Wholesale and retired in 1989 after 41 years of dedicated service.
Although he wore many hats and served many positions over the years, he was a faithful friend, dedicated husband, and loving fathergrandfather who will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Reta Sherman.
Survivors include his wife, Letha M. Allen of Odessa his children, David Allen and wife Susan of Kingwood, Texas, Gail Allen Lewis and husband Mark of Windsor, Colorado, Debra Allen Lewis and husband Dan of Hurst, Texas and Wesley Allen of Abilene, Texas his grandchildren, Ginger Lewis Stewart and Rob, Tia Lewis, Melissa Lewis Cooper and Nathan, Daniel Lewis, William Allen and Nicole, Emily Allen, and James Paul Allen his great grandchildren, Hunter James Allen, and Kale Lewis Cooper his sisters, Norma Adair and husband Joe of Wichita Falls, Texas and Peggy Adelmann of Smyrna, Tennessee.
Visitation with the family will be 57 PM on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 18, 2010 at First United Methodist Church with Terry Tamplen officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family wants to thank Dr. Doran, Dr. Khandalwal, Dr. Daniel, Dr. Rao, and Dr. Ghanta as well as the staff of Medical Center Hospital and the Infusion Center, as well as the West Texas Oncology Center for their loving care.
