James Walker Archer Sr. of Odessa, Texas passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022, in Odessa, Texas.
There will be an informal viewing on Friday, January 6, 2023, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, where some family will be available for visitors at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with Jimmy Braswell & Karissa Venditti officiating. Burial Services will immediately follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
James Walker Archer (Jim) was born in Buffalo Gap, Texas to Claude Lee & Lilly Pet Archer on September 19,1933. He grew up in and went to school around Buffalo Gap, Texas with his parents & siblings Wilma Juanita Archer, Arthur Lee Archer, Henry Pinkney Smith Archer, Vernon Wayne Archer, Donald L. Archer. He married Maves Marie Welch on June 29, 1970, at Friendship Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas. Jim worked as a truck driver in the oilfield industry for several years. He was extremely popular for fixing sewing machines which made extra money as a side job. Later, the couple opened a very successful wedding catering & cake decorating business, Maves Archer Cakes & Sweet Design. Jim is an Army veteran of the Korean War and was awarded a Korean Service Metal with 3 Bronze Stars, the UN Service Metal and a Combat Badge.
He was involved in many churches over the course of his life. However, most recently he was a member of Cornerstone Worship Center Assembly of God Church where he enjoyed fellowship and sang on many occasions. In his spare time, he enjoyed cooking for his family, singing, and watching his team, the Dallas Cowboys, on T.V. His grandchildren knew him lovingly as Pepaw or Pawpaw. ❤️
He is proceeded in death by his wife, Maves Marie Archer; 4 children, Linda Darnell Archer Woodlock, Harley Joe Archer, James Walker Archer Jr and James Kelvin Archer; two stepchildren, Roy Kelly Welch and Kathy Marie Welch Eckel; parents, Claude Lee Archer & Lilly Pet McCulley Archer; siblings, Wilma Juanita Archer, Arthur Lee Archer, Henry Pinkney Smith Archer, Vernon Wayne Archer, Donald L. Archer; father & mother in-laws, Mr. & Mrs. John Leemon Sutton; brother in-law, Franklin Dwain Handley; granddaughter, Christi Marie Ernst, and many other close family members.
James Walker Archer Sr. is survived by his daughter, Mellony Renee Archer Rainey and husband Ezekiel Allen Rainey of Odessa, Texas; son, James Eric Archer and wife Mandy Ann Archer of San Angelo, Texas; stepdaughter, Edith Lynette Welch Ervin and husband David Jon Ervin of Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren, James Kelly Archer, Cameron Jean Mendiola, Kennedie JoNell Mendiola of San Angelo, Texas, Darlene Renee Rainey Downd and Mark Allen Rainey, Kelsi Loraine and husband Bart Owen Parker all of Odessa Texas, Karissa Lynette Venditti and Amber Elissa Honeycutt, both of Round Rock, Texas; also, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and loves ones.
