James Hagens Edmonds, age 84, of Odessa passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2012, surrounded by his family and loved ones after a brief illness.
Hagens was born July 20th, 1927 in Anson Texas to James Roy and Annie Hagens Edmonds. He was one of six siblings to come from this union. He married his soul mate Dollie Lone Herndon on June 26, 1951 in Anson Texas.
Hagens and Dollie were able to celebrate their 61st year of marriage with their family on June 26th, 2012 before he was called home. Hagens and his father worked together at R. B. Spencer Lumber Company in Anson for many years before moving to Kermit and then Odessa. Hagens worked for Pinner Carpets 42 years until his retirement on June 15th, 2011.
Hagens loved the game of golf. He spent many weekends playing with his golf buddies at Sunset Country Club but his greatest joy was golfing with Mom in couples tournaments throughout West Texas area and playing with his son.
Our Dad was a man of high moral standards and integrity, showing us the right way through examples in the way he lived his life. These examples will remain with us throughout our remaining lives. Also, his quick wit and sense of humor will last with us forever.
Hagens is preceded in death by his father, James Roy Edmonds, his mother, Annie Hagens Edmonds, sisters Frances Edmonds, Mary Edmonds and Margie Gibbs.
Hagens is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dollie Herndon Edmonds, a son Jim Edmonds and his wife Vickie, a daughter, Maria Reese and husband Gary, all of Odessa. Five granddaughters, Ashley Thinel and husband Sebastien, Whitney Lackey and husband Patrick, Chelsea Edmonds, Maegan Greer and husband Josh, Hailey Dubord and husband Jocelyn. Six great grandchildren, Maddx and Jett Thinel, Reese Lackey, Chaynee and Cayson Carrell, Paisley Greer, and one on the way, two sisters, Pat
Edmonds, RoyAnn McDowell and one brotherinlaw, Sam Gibbs, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, July 1st from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home .
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday July 2nd at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Don Fankhauser officiating, graveside services to follow. All arrangements have been made by Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Lackey. Josh Greer. Roddy Caffey. Louis Parras. Nicholas Parras and Nathan Parras.
