James Goldsmith

Jim Goldsmith, 81, of Odessa, Texas passed away on November 28, 2018 in Midland, Texas.

Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Friday November 30, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Jim was born September 18, 1937 in Olney, Texas to Claude Goldsmith and Mary Pearl McKinley. He graduated from Snyder High School in Snyder, Texas in 1955 and moved shortly thereafter to Odessa, Texas. He attended Odessa College briefly and began working for Phillips 66. From 1960 to 1966 Jim served in the United Sates Army Reserves.

After leaving Phillips, Jim went into the car business establishing Action Auto Sales in Odessa in 1965. His son Michael joined him as a partner in Action Auto and eventually became the sole proprietor. In 1997, Jim opened Vehicles Unique in Odessa which he operated with help from his nephew Scott McCall and his wife Kelli McCall until his passing. Scott and Kelli will continue to operate Vehicles Unique as per Jim's wishes. Jim spent most of his professional career in the car business in Odessa other than a short period in the car business in Plainview, Texas with his cousin Norman McCall and a brief stint in the Mobile Home Business. Jim loved any business or transaction that required negotiation including real estate, airplanes or buying a hamburger, much to the embarrassment of his grandsons.

Jim married Jemmie Ray Mead on July 25, 1957 in Odessa, Texas. They had two children, a son Michael and a daughter, Kristi. They are members of First Baptist Church Odessa.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, step father N. H. Lake, son Michael, sister Bonnie, cousin Norman McCall and sister-in-law Georgia McCall.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jemmie Ray Goldsmith, daughter Kristi and husband Steve Jumper, grandsons Kevin Jumper (wife Kristie), Brian Jumper (wife Michele) and Austin Jumper (wife Shelby), and three granddaughters Morgan, Megan and Makalei Goldsmith. Survivors also include his nephew Scott McCall, wife Kelli and their children Kelsi and Corbin along with five great grandchildren, Hailey, Henry, Maddox, Audrey (his birthday baby) and Emma.

Jim loved watching Permian football except for the years his grandsons played football for Midland Lee during which time he traded his black "P" hat for a maroon Lee hat. Upon their graduations from Lee High School, he dusted off his black "P" hat to support Kelsi and Permian Softball along with a return to Permian football. His favorite past time was watching Kevin, Brian, Austin, Kelsi and Corbin participate in sports and school activities. He financially supported many of Kelsi and Corbin's sports teams.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Scott McCall, Corbin McCall, Kelsi McCall, Kevin Jumper, Austin Jumper and Ricky Ransom. Brian Jumper and Steve Jumper will serve as honorary Pallbearers.

The family wishes to thank all of Jim's doctors, in particular Dr. M. Patel and Dr. Campos of Midland, the nurses on the eighth floor at Midland Memorial Hospital and Hospice of Midland for their care and support during the difficult last few days.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Midland.
