James Jim Calvin Long, 80, of Odessa, passed on Thursday, February 28, 2013 in Odessa, Texas.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Dr. DuBose Weeks of Westwood Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Justin, Matt, Johnny, Brett, Leighanna, Steve and Stephen acting as pallbearers. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
Jim Long was born in Plainview, Texas to Roy Long and Grace Dicus on July 21, 1932. He went to school at Everman, Texas. He married Jane Campbell on September 3, 1961 in Odessa, Texas. He was proud to say that he made it to eighth grade. He held many jobs in the oil field industry working for Galveston Houston Company for 27 years and Sun Oil Company. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Army. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. He enjoyed spending time with his family, telling stories, watching Westerns, hunting, fishing and being around horses.
Jim Long is preceded in death by his father, Roy Long and mother, Grace Dicus Long.
Jim Long is survived by wife, Jane Campbell Long son, Jack Long daughters, Sherrie Olvera and Lori Hargrove sisters, Louise Walker and Laveda Evans grandchildren, Karen Weddel, Ashley Hall, Cymbre Dunigan, Leighanna Goodson and Justin Goodson, and 10 greatgrandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
