James (Jim) Allen Maness, Jr., 75 of Odessa, TX passed away on June 28, 2018 in Odessa, TX. Jim had battled H.H.T, a rare genetic vascular disease all his life along with blood cancer and kidney disease in the last year.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Sunday July 1, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Services will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Chapel at 10:00 am on Monday, July 2, 2018, with Reverend Clydell Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Jim was born in Kermit, TX on February 14, 1943, yes, an only child on Valentine's Day to Marguerite & James Allen Maness, Sr. He attended school in Kermit and graduated in 1961. That same year he married Nadine Vickrey with whom he had 3 children.
In 1998, Jim and Sonia Brown Myers were married on a cold & icy day in December. He then inherited two more bonus children that loved him as their own Dad.
Jim had a love for cars, motorcycles & anything that could go fast. He had 14 cars by the time he was 14. Jim became a mechanic, fabricator, machinist, designer and the greatest "Guru" on Volkswagens of all time.
He later went on to design, build, and race off road cars. He raced in the Mint 400 & Parker. Along with cars & racing, Jim had a love of cowboys (western) movies unlike anyone before. After many years, he could almost recite word for word all of John Wayne's movies along with many others.
Jim is preceded in death by his dad, James Sr., mother, Marguerite, really "Skeet". In his mother's eyes, he could do no wrong and was the light of her life. He is also preceded in death by numerous friends who were very dear to him.
Through the influence of two very Godly women, his mother and grandmother, Jim came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior & was baptized. He often marveled at the goodness and mercy of God. Surely the Lord was his strength and refuge in the years of his afflictions. At last he has been set free. We look forward to the day we will see him again.
Jim is survived by his wife & kindred spirit, Sonia Maness, son, David Maness & wife, Katrina of Columbus, TX daughter, Tonya Todd & husband Kevin of Monahans, TX, daughter, Krystal Maness of San Angelo, TX, son, Shane Myers & wife Stacy of Odessa, TX and daughter, Mandi Myers of Odessa, TX.
He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, many dear and close friends too numerous to name. You know who you are and he loved you all dearly.
We thank you all for all your thoughts and most of all your prayers. Thank you for loving "my Jim". He will be missed more than he can imagine.
