James Arthur "Pete" McDonald, age 79, of Odessa, TX passed away on March 23, 2015 while surrounded by friends and family.
Family will receive friends and family from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Mid Cities Community Church, 8700 TX-191, Midland, TX with Troy Stephenson, Steven Adair and Clark Racca, officiating.
Pete attended school in Wink, TX, where he was a member of the high school football team that won the state championship in 1952. He later graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor's degree in Sociology, where he was also president of the Rodeo Club.
On March 17, 1962, Pete married the love of his life, Ann George McDonald, at First Baptist Church in Fabens, TX. They recently celebrated 53 years of marriage in Odessa, TX with their friends and family.
Pete served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant & Assistant to the Chaplain. Following his time in the service, Pete went to work for the Texas Dept. of Public Safety as a State Trooper in the El Paso district. He then served a short stint with the Federal Bureau of Investigation before moving to Odessa, TX in 1966. He retired from El Paso Products Company/El Paso Natural Gas after 30 years as a Human Resource Manager.
He was ordained as a deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church. He was currently an active member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church. His favorite past-time was hanging out with the Senior Saints. Also, Pete and E.P. Gaston started the men's prayer breakfast on Thursday mornings and much fun was had.
Pete was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather (Pappy) and friend to many. He was known for his fun loving sense of humor and fervent faith in his Savior. He was a source of wisdom and strength for his three sons who loved him dearly. His two grandchildren, Grace and Gabe McDonald brought him great joy, as well as his favorite daughter-in-love, Jana McDonald, with whom he had a very special bond.
Pete is preceded in death by his father, H.H. "Rosie" McDonald; mother, Mildred Ola McDonald, whom for many years he lovingly cared for until she passed away at the age of 100, and his sister, Bettye Jeanne Wallace.
He is survived by his wife, Ann George McDonald; sons, James Gregory "Gregg" McDonald and wife Jana of Odessa, TX, Gary McDonald of Dallas, TX, Matthew George McDonald of Boston, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Elizabeth "Grace" McDonald and James Gabriel "Gabe" McDonald of Odessa, TX.
Pallbearers will be as follows: Blake Batte, Greg Davis, Russell Franklin, Calvin Lawson, Gabe McDonald, Vance Wallace and Philip Wyman. Honorary pallbearers are E.P. Gaston, Bob Little, David Royal and Monte Wootton.
