James Alvin Nickel, age 94, of Odessa, TX, passed away on November 15, 2019 in Odessa.
Memorial Services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 10, 2020 at Asbury Methodist Church with Pastor Sean Smith officiating.
James was born September 27, 1925 to Jacob and Gladys Nickel in Grants Pass, Oregon. He was raised in Chico, CA. His first marriage was to Byrl Ray Udvardi until her death in May of 1998. He married his second wife, Jerri Sullivan, (still living) in April 1999. He worked as Chairman of the Math Dept. of Oklahoma City University 1960-1967, Defense Consultant 1968-1972, and Chairman of Math Dept. UTPB 1972-1993. He was a life-long Methodist. He served as an adult Sunday School Teacher, Lay Minister and supported Campus Ministries while a Professor at UTPB. He was an Eagle Scout and active in Boy Scouts of America since the age of nine, earning the Silver Beaver Award in Buffalo Trail Council for life-time service. Active in the Globe Theater, Church Choir, and the Symphony Chorale.
He is survived by sons: Jay, Ron and Mark Nickel; and step daughter: Kathy Norwood, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
