James Claude Parrish, 90 of Odessa died Monday August 2, 2010 at Home Hospice. J C Parrish was born May 9, 1920 to Harry and Maude Parrish in Sweetwater, Texas. The family moved to Union in Terry County and JC graduated from Union High School in 1940. He served in the US Army Air Corps in the Pacific during World War II and was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon and 4 Overseas Service Bars. He was discharged on November 2, 1945.
JC was a truck driver and drove for companies including E. L. Farmer and G. Q. Salmon at the time of his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lucian Parrish who was killed in World War II, and another brother, Harold Parrish who passed away March 9, 2010, also one sister, Dorothy Ruth Parrish who passed away at two years of age.
He is survived by one brother, Owen Parrish of Midland, two sisters, Lillian Bevers of Odessa and Lola Shewmake of Dallas, two nieces, Charlene Jones and husband Don of Odessa and Gerri Jenkins and husband Dick of Dallas two nephews Jerry Parrish and wife Jan of Denver City, Texas and Don Parrish and wife Sueann of Plains, Texas and several grand nephews and nieces.
Graveside services with military honors will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jimmy Braswell, Chaplin of Home Hospice officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home 6801 E. Business 20 Odessa, Texas. Memorials may be directed to Home Hospice at 903 N.
