James Douglas Russell

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved: James Douglas Russell of Odessa, on February 1, 2025 at the age of 68. Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother & friend, whose presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was born on November 11, 1956 in San Antonio, Tx. Doug lived a full & enriched life. He was a self contracted carpenter for over 40 years. He was a devoted believer in Jesus Christ, a dedicated husband, an excellent father and a dutiful grandfather. Doug’s genuine heart drew so many cherished friends into his life over the years. He took the time to establish authentic connections with people. He was an avid outdoorsman, watersport enthusiast, craftsman, artist, patriot & passionate football fan. Apart from cheering for mojo on Friday nights he relentlessly poured himself into his family & community making everyone’s day brighter even if it was at his own cost. Doug’s greatest joy on earth was spending time with his kids & grandkids. His dedication was persistent until his last breath, from this the world is more because of him. May god rest his soul.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Macel Pemberton & M.H. Russell.

He is survived by his wife: Carolyn Russell, daughters: Jessica Russell, Caren & husband Jr Anaya, son: James Russell, grandchildren: O.T. Hinds, Donavan Hinds Sr, Caydance Anaya, Carigan Hinds, Jamison Anaya, Bailey Russell, Tayten Russell & Mason Russell, great grandchildren: Odin Hinds, Aloura Hinds & Donavan Hinds Jr.

Services will be conducted at 2pm on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with pastor Branden Leal, officiating.

The burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers: James Russell, O.T. Hinds, Donavan Hinds Sr, Jamison Anaya, Alberto Marquez, Carlos Reyes, Doug Webster & Terry (TA) Jarrell.
