James E. Smith, aged 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Cedar Park, TX on August 4th, 2013. He was blessed to have his family at his side keeping him comfortable during his last hours.
James was born on November 28, 1924 in Cleburne, TX. He lived much of his young adult life in McCamey, TX, before moving to his home in Odessa, where he would spend the majority of his years. He married Rosa, the love of this life, on March 1st, 1969. James was a veteran of World War II and stormed the beaches of Normandy with the 29th Infantry Division. After returning from the war he had a successful career in the oil field.
James was a charming and charismatic person, who left an indelible mark in the heart of every person he befriended. He loved spending time with his family, friends and Bonham Ave. neighbors, reveling in the attention that others poured his way. James was an avid golfer with a stubborn attitude that helped land him his second holeinone at the age of 81. His other passions included feeding the birds, picking pecans, and working the daily crossword with Mollie from next door.
James is survived by his wife Rosa, son Jimmy and his wife Candy, granddaughters Jessica, Allison, and Pamela and her husband Miguel Harvey, and their two children, Dylan James and Gram. James had a special place in his heart for children and enjoyed watching his granddaughters, greatgrandsons and greatnephews play and grow. James will be missed dearly, and his life will be celebrated by many.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 10th at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
