James Arthur Waldrop, Art to friends family was born November 23, 1915 in Abilene, Texas to Charlie and Roxy Waldrop. God called him home on December 25, 2008. He was a wonderful loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and loyal friend to many. Arthur met Luva Glenn Ince, a classmate and the love of his life and they married March 07, 1936. Arthur and Luva had one son, David L. Waldrop Sr. They moved to Odessa and he worked for Oberkampf Plumbing Supply and bought out the company in 1950 and ran a very successful business. He loved his employees and enjoyed visiting with everyone who came in. He continued to work everyday until he was in his 90's. Before leaving Abilene, Arthur worked on a farm; he never quite got away from it and raised massive amounts of watermelon, cantaloupes sweet potatoes and black-eyed peas which were given to one and all. Arthur and Luva also opened the Frost Top Drive Inn in 1957 and later sold it.
Arthur loved hunting, fishing, farming and flying airplanes. Arthur was Baptist and belonged to Crossroads Church. Survivors are Son, David L. Waldrop, Sr. and wife Nell, Granddaughter Vicki Vickers, Grandson David Waldrop, Jr. and wife Terri, Jay Brown and wife Lisa, John Brown and wife Lori, 5 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great great grandchild and one sister in-law, Faye Waldrop and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
Pallbearers will be Josh Vickers, Britt Vickers, Bradley Vickers, David Allen Waldrop, Jimmy Conlin and Jay Brown.
Visitation will be Monday the 29th of December at Sunset Memorial Gardens from 5:00-7:00. Services will be Tuesday December 30, at 10:00 am. The family would like to extend special thanks to Mary Early his care taker, and to the Staff at Hospice House.
