Jane Matthews

Jane Matthews of Odessa, TX passed away Dec. 11, 2011. Jane was born in El Paso to George Ellis Crysler and Sadie Jane Dool on April 11, 1916. Jane had many brothers and sisters including George, Mae, Austin, and Florence.

Jane married Terrell Monon Matthews d. 2009, on Sept. 8, 1938 at 1st Methodist Church El Paso, TX. by Rev. Charles Oscar Beckman. They made their church home at First United Methodist Church in Odessa. Jane loved music, choir, and Sunday school.

Jane and Terrell had three children, Virginia Jane of Highland, CA, David d. 1948, and Douglas Scott of Phoenix. She and Terrell had six grandchildren, Melanie, Michel, David, Christi Magdziasz and Austin Sean Matthews.

Jane had a love for fun and sport. She was Captain of her field hockey team at El Paso High. She was an accomplished bowler and had a zest for bridge club. Jane was a proud member of Eastern Star and served as President of both the American Business Womens Association and the Odessa Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign War. Jane was awarded the title American Businesswoman of the Year in 1976.

Visitation with the family will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home. Services will follow at 11:00 AM Saturday, in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

We are sorry she was called away, but we celebrate a life well lived. We thank all of those who helped Jane and Terrell live out their days in the wonderful City of Odessa. Memorials may be made in support of First United Methodist Church in Odessa at http:www.fumcodessa.org.
