Jay Earl Bryson, Jr., 72 of Odessa, died on Saturday, May 31, 2014 in Odessa.
Jay was born October 7, 1941 in Brownfield, Texas to Janet Marie Smith and Jay Earl Bryson. Reared in Tokio and educated in Plains. He earned his bachelors degree from Texas Tech in 1964. Jay married his childhood sweetheart D Lois McGinty in Plains, TX on August 29, 1964. The Brysons moved to Lubbock for a short time prior to moving to Odessa in 1967. Jay worked with El Paso Products for 16 years, and retired in 2007 from ECISD as a bus driver.
Past President of Odessa Downtown Lions Club, past board member of the Texas Lions Club Camp in Kerrville, Texas. Endowed member of Andy G. Vaughn Lodge No. 1421, Goldsmith Lodge No. 1276 and Denver City Lodge No. 1278, and was past Master of these lodges. 32 Degree KCCH with Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of El Paso. Odessa Commandery No. 110 Knights Templar, Odessa Red Cross of Constantine, Odessa Scottish Rite Association. West Texas York Rite College in Lubbock. Member of the Eastern Star and served as past Worthy Parton.
He is preceded in death by his parents Janet and Jay Bryson.
Survivors include his wife D Lois Bryson daughter, Dana Bryson son, Jon Bryson all of Odessa, granddaughter, Autum Emily EdwardsBryson of Florida. Sister Dana Marie Bryson Kerby and husband Jim of Granbury, TX niece, Janel Holt and husband Doug of Godley, TX., as well as those friends we love just as much as family.
Visitation will be 5:00 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Lynn Money officiating. Burial with Masonic Gravesite Rites will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Plains Yoakum County Cemetery.
