Jean Conaway (Meme) was born in Paris, Texas on March 22, 1929 and was nurtured in life by her loving grandparents, Mama and Papa Fields. She passed away peacefully at her home in Thorsby, Alabama on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. She was surrounded by the presence and love of her family and dear companion, Sarah McPherson, when she was called home.
She loved the Lord with all of her heart and will join the love of her life, Louis, in Heaven for eternity. Her greatest joy was sharing the love and promises of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She never met a stranger. Within minutes of meeting someone for the first time, she knew their life story, had shared hers and told them all about Jesus. She touched so many lives that way.
She adored her family and family gatherings. Every child, grandchild and great-grandchild had many fond memories of time spent with her. She made each one believe that they were special and her favorite.
Jean grew up in Paris, Texas and lived most of her adult life in Odessa, Texas. She moved to Thorsby, Alabama in 2017 to be nearer to Pam.
She was preceded in death by her parents Troy and Wilma McCormick and her husband of 55 years, Louis Conaway and daughter-in-law Julie Conaway.
She is survived by her loving children, K. Michael Conaway and his wife Suzanne, Larry Keith Conaway and his wife Diana, Pamela Jean Gandy and her husband Bill; and daughter-in-law, Robin Torke Conaway. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Brian Conaway, Erin Conaway and his wife Carmen, Kellyanne Gandy, Joshua Conaway and his wife Janae, Kara Bell and her husband Brian, Ashley Salyers and her husband Cody, Stephanie Marshall and her husband Rob, Seth Gandy and his wife Jessica, Malachi Gandy and his wife Brooke. She will also be missed by her 20 great-grandchildren.
