Jeanette Ferguson

December 24, 1926 — August 2, 2011

Jeanette Ann Jean Holland Ferguson passed from this life into the loving arms of her Savior on August 2, 2011 in Odessa, TX where she had been a resident for many years.

Jean was born in South Dakota on December 24 1926. Jean moved to several locations in Texas with her family and eventually settled in Austin where she attended the University of Texas. She later transferred to the University of Iowa to partake of its drama department. The Iowa snow would not permit her to fly home one Christmas so she went home with a girlfriend for the holidays. There she met her friends big brother and her future husband, Dr. Herman Dale Holland.

Herm and Jean married on August 25, 1946 in Austin, TX. They had three children and a happy marriage until Herm died in 1981. Jean met and married Neal Ferguson of Odessa in 1989. Jean and Neal spent much of their time together traveling. They were married for 21 years. Neal also preceded Jean in death in 2010.

Through the years, Jean was active in tennis, Womens Bible Fellowship, book clubs, supper clubs and her faithful bridge club. Jean did some acting in the Permian Playhouse, but she was best known for her delicious cooking. When she was newlymarried in Amarillo, TX while her husband, Herm, an oral surgeon, was in the Air Force, she pioneered by having her own cooking show on TV in the early 50s.

Jean is survived by two daughters, Terri Lynn Colgin and husband Johnny Colgin of Santa Fe, TN and Gail Jean Kimbrell of Odessa, a son, Scott Holland of Midland, six grandchildren, Deanna Dickerson and husband Desmond, Ronda Fox, David Boner, John Colgin, Paige Colgin and Ivy Holland, as well as five greatgrandchildren, Kensie Dickerson, Kallie Dickerson, Jaci Fox, Jalie Boner and Alondra Sterling.

The service will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Redeemer Luther Church where Jean was a member for 54 years with Pastor James Wiese officiating. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family would like any memorials to be made to Hospice House or Redeemer Lutheran Church.
