Jerry Glenn Ervin
Jerry Glenn Ervin, 80, passed away on May 22, 2008, after a long battle with Alzheimers. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 26, 2008 at Sunset Memorial Gardens Chapel at 10am with Rev. Al Workman of Crossroads Fellowship officiating. Burial will follow in Tulia, Texas at 3pm. He was born to Thomas Bradford and Myrtle Annie Ervin on January 16, 1928 in Amarillo, Texas. After growing up in the Amarillo and Tulia area, he moved to Odessa in 1944. Jerry graduated from OHS in 1946 after playing football on the State championship team of 1946. Jerry married his sweetheart, Charmaygn Long, on December 29, 1949. They enjoyed 59 years together. He worked in the family business and was owner of Ervin Plumbing, drilling water wells and plumbing, until his retirement in 1982.
After retiring Jerry and Connie moved to the place he loved most, the Rio Grande River. They resided there until the early 1990s moving to Tulia to care for his older brother. In 2005 they returned to their home place in Odessa. Jerry had many interest which including racing motorcycles, midget cars, and stock cars. In the early 1950s Jerry had the fastest Harley in Texas. He enjoyed hunting rattlesnakes, fishing, and had a great love of animals, especially his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Charley Ervin, Joe Ervin, Thomas Ervin, and sister Billie Victor.
He is survived by his wife Connie, sister, Francis Gerdes of Harrison, Arkansas, sons Tommy Ervin and Gordon Ervin of Odessa, and daughter Norlene McBride and husband, Joe of Odessa. He is also survived by grandchildren Lori Suffield and husband Joe of Houston, Colby Gann of Addison, Caleb McBride, Tissa Chandler, and Marcy Bingham of Odessa, and six great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend our greatest appreciation to the nurses at the Younger Unit at Manor Park. We have been greatly blessed by the care that Jerry received over the past few years. We would also like to thank Compass Hospice and Dr Le at the Texas Tech Health Science Center. The family suggests donations to the Younger Unit at Manor Park in Midland, Compass Hospice of Odessa, or the
Alzheimers Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
