Jerry James Reffner, 69 passed away Saturday, August 15, 2009 in Odessa, TX.
Cometh unto me all you who labor and have heavy laden and I will give you rest Matthew 11: 28. Jerry ended his battle with his illness peacefully on August 15, 2009.
Born in McPherson, KS on May 13, 1940 to Maurice and Betty Reffner, Graduated from Great Bend High School in 1958, followed by a four year enlistment with the US Navy, returning to Lyons, KS, where he met and married Sherry Huggins on June 20, 1965. Out of this 44 year marriage, three beautiful daughters were born. He was proud of his family and just ask him about his grandsons.
He was a market manager for Dillions for twenty years before starting a new adventure in the oil industry which brought his family to Oklahoma and Texas. A salesman for twenty five years for Lone Star Gasket, Jerry touched many peoples lives and will be always be remembered in their hearts.
He was an avid golfer with a passion for the game and tournament play in many surrounding cities throughout West Texas. He will be deeply missed by his golf Buddies.
Survivors include, wife Sherry of Odessa, TX; daughters, Shannon and husband Sean Brewer of Richmond, KY, Jami and Kylie Yonts of Odessa, TX, Jessica and fianc Joshua Mohesky of Houston, TX; two grandsons, Joshua of Richmond, KY and Jacob Tator of Houston; mother, Betty Reffner of Levelland, TX, sisters, Susan Gray and husband Steve of Levelland, TX, Michelle Reffner of Levelland, TX, Carol Trout and husband Mike of Odessa, TX and brother Chris Reffner of Levelland, TX; and numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.
Preceded him in death was Maurice Reffner, father, brothers, David and Michael.
Visitation will be 5:00 7:00 Tuesday August 18 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, with a rosary following at 7 p.m. Mass will be said Wednesday with Father Mark officiating on August 19, at 9:00 A.M. at St. Elizabeth Seaton Church, burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Sherry and her family would like to request those attending the service to wear golf attire.
The family would like to give a special thank you for all of who have been so important in the care of Jerry, his Doctors and nurses and their staff, home Hospice and the wonderful staff at Buena Vida. You will always be remembered in giving that extra special effort to make him well.
A memorial fund has been set up in the name of Jerry J. Reffner Golf Scholarship at Odessa Jr. College if you wish to continue his love for the game.
