Jimmie West Burge, 76, of Odessa, passed away peacefully at Home Hospice House Saturday, December 26, 2009. He was born October 11, 1933, to Lucy Emma and William Thomas Burge in Mankins, Texas.brbrHe married Barbara Ann Burke on March 6, 1954, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Together they shared almost 56 years of marriage. Born to them were two beautiful girls Sharon Kay deceased, and Kim Suzanne; three grandchildren Christi Ann, Wendi Kay and Joshua Cody; and seven great-grandchildren Sharon Paije, Samantha Kay, Rhyan Breanne, Cooper Cy, Hannah Lynn, Kerbi Kay and Flint Lee. His greatest love was his family.brbrAlso cherishing his memories are his brother J.T. Burge and wife Pauline, sister, Virginia Shilanski and husband Al. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents Lucy and William Burge; daughter Sharon Kay Flood; brothers Johnnie and Horace Burge; sisters Willie Sissom, Lou Edmonds, and Velma Johnson; nieces Betty and Sabrina; nephews Ricky and Jackie.brbrJimmie served on the cruiser U.S.S. Helena, stationed out of Long Beach, California. He served in the Korean War and received the National Defense Medal; China Service EXT; and Good Conduct Award. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1956 from the United States Navy, he moved his family to Odessa, Texas. There he became one of the first cast-iron welders to service the growing oil field. Some of his passions included hunting, dancing, fishing and spending time at the lake with family and friends.brbrA special thanks to Dr. Tim George, Dr. Joseph Kaczor and the staff at West Texas Cancer Center. Graveside services, with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy, will be held in the Dundee Cemetery in Dundee, Texas on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. brbrIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kay Burge Flood Radiologic Technologist Scholarship Fund at Odessa College.br
