Jimmy Ray Papaw Jones, 81, of Odessa, made his favorite place to sing and preach out, Heaven, his home.
Our celebration of life for Papaw will be held Tuesday, December 23rd at 4:00pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa with the Reverend Paul Clark, officiating.
Jimmy was born on March 4, 1933 to Andrew Jackson Jones and Bertie May Barton in Timpson, TX. He married the love of his life, Alta Rae Nail, on May 4, 1958 in Odessa, TX. Jimmy, a dedicated servant, was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Air Force. Although working as a welder in oil fields of West Texas was his profession, his love was ministering the Good News of Jesus Christ to anyone and everyone. He will always be remembered as a joyous presence and he, through loudly proclaiming Praise the Lord when entered a room, he gave a boost to any environment he entered.
Although Jimmy was his name, he was affectionately known as Papaw to everyone. Music, laughter, joy, jokes and faith, describe Jimmy Papaw Jones. The heritage of faith he began will continue for generations.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife, Alta Rae Jones parents Bertie Jones, Andrew Jones and stepmother Lula Jones brothers Harrison, AJ Jr. and Billy Dan sisters Ella Mae Baird, Diamond Bowlin, and Dorothy Hudson.
