September 9, 1917 January 27, 2011
Joan Nichols, beloved Mother, adored Grandmother, and cherished GreatGrandmother, passed away at home in Denton, Texas at the age of 93 surrounded by loved ones on January 27.
Joan was born in Big Spring, Texas, as the seventh of eleven children born to Jesse Arnett and Effie Arnett. She graduated from Midland High School and attended college at Mary Hardin Simmons University. She married the love of her life, Jesse Jackson Jack Nichols in June 1940. They enjoyed traveling and saw many beautiful places. They had one daughter, Mary Bea, who was their pride and joy.
Joan enjoyed playing dominoes, cards and other board games and had several groups of friends that she regularly played with for years. She also loved to travel and did so often with her church senior group along with her sister or dear friend and they went all over the globe Joans family, however, was her hearts greatest treasure. Her favorite memories always included any family gatherings and especially the Arnett Family Reunion held every summer. She loved and encouraged her daughters passion for quilting and always helped her by sewing on the bindings for all of her quilts.
She worked in the childrens department as a buyer and sales associate for Dunlaps department store for over 40 years. She had a great fondness of fashion and jewelry and those who knew her or had seen her closets remember that she was always well dressed and beautifully jeweled. She was a member of the American Business Womens Association for many years and was named Woman of the Year in her last year there.
She resided in Odessa for 70 years and was an active and involved member of First Baptist Church of Odessa. She lived her life serving the Lord. She spent much of her time offering help and comfort for friends in need and would run errands for others even until it became difficult to do for herself. She truly was a student and example of Gods Word with never a day passing that she did not read her Bible.
