Joe Brooks White, age 89, of Odessa, TX, passed away on October 20, 2015 in Odessa.
Joe was born on August 11, 1926 in Anson, TX to John Anderson White and Alpha (Stephens) White. He was in The United States Navy during WWII, enlisting September 21, 1944 Co#351 Okinawa. He was honorably discharged June 17, 1946. Joe married Doris Ann (Pittman) White on September 2, 1948 in Anson, TX.
Joe owned Joe White Lincoln Mercury in Odessa, for 37 years. He held membership in the Masonic and Shriners Lodge, started free school lunches for ECISD and provided Drivers Education vehicles for OHS and PHS. He also was on the board for the YMCA, United Way and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He was a private pilot. Additionally he was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he held many administrative positions and taught Sunday school.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alpha White and a brother, Otis Jesse Albert White.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Ann Pittman of Odessa, son, David and Pam White of Richmond, TX, daughters, Lea Ann and Johnny Walker of Houston, TX, Lyn and Kerry Giesler of Odessa, grandchildren, Meredith and Craig Garner-Rancho Santa Fe, CA, Brooks and Courtney White of Odessa, Wade White of Raleigh, NC, Houston and Amy Walker of Houston, TX, Joe and Kelsey Walker of Houston, Jefferson Walker of Houston, Justin Walker of Houston, Kelby and Garret Davis of Odessa, Kade Giesler of Odessa, Justin and Ashley Heinrich of Spring, TX, great grandchildren, John John and Will Garner of Rancho Santa Fe, CA David, Braxton and Grayson White of Odessa, Madison Walker of Houston, Harper Heinrich of Spring, TX and sister, Johnnie Lou Taylor of Odessa.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm, Friday, October 23, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 24, 2015 at First United Methodist Church, 415 N. Lee St, Odessa, TX with Reverend Donnie Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Joe Brooks White II, Wade White, Justin Heinrich, Craig Garner, Houston Walker, Joe Walker, Jefferson Walker, Justin Walker, Kade Giesler and Garret Davis
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church, The Bridge or Permian Basin Honor Flight.
