John Joseph Joe Burchfield, 86, of Odessa, died Friday, February 27, 2009, in Odessa. He was an Odessa resident for over half a century. He was born March 9, 1922 in McNeil, Arkansas to John Calhoun Burchfield and Lou Ellen Henry.
He attended Southern State University in Magnolia, Arkansas. He married Edna Mae Hallman on December 26, 1947. They moved to Odessa in 1949. Together, they had two children, John Joseph Burchfield II and Patricia Jean Burchfield.
He enlisted the United States Marine Corps in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He served in the First Marine Air Wing in Bougainville, Luzon, Okinawa and South Pacific Islands. He was awarded the S.P.C., Three Battle Stars, Expert Riflemans badge, Marine Citations, American Campaign Service Medal, Asian-Pacific Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He retired as a Sales Engineer from BJ Hughes in 1985.
He is survived by his son, John Burchfield and daughter-in-law Felipa Avila, both of Dallas; and his daughter Patricia Burchfield and son-in-law Brent Maxwell both of College Station.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00AM, Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Rev. Terry Tamplin of the First United Methodist will officiate.
