John Louis Ferguson, 86, of Odessa, TX, went to heaven on July 27, 2018.
J., as he was known by many was born October 3, 1931 in Lufkin, TX to John Lafayette Ferguson and Louie May Risinger Ferguson.
John graduated from Lufkin High School and Stephen F. Austin University, Nacogdoches, TX. He proudly served in the Texas National Guard and the US Navy He was on board the USS Cowell DD 547, and USS Gordius ARL 36, serving as an E.T. He sang with a USA signing group known as the "Gordius 5", appearing several times on TV.
John and Sara were married on October 9, 1954 (64 years), in Lufkin and moved to Odessa in 1957 with their one-year old son Jay. He loved Odessa and defended it proudly regularly. John retired from Texas Commerce Bank, Odessa, TX in 1988. He enjoyed going to Mojo football games with friend Dr. Tom Elrod and going to Chandler Ranch. He was an avid Permian football fan. He took great pride in Permian, Odessa, High, Odessa College and our University of Texas of the Permian Basin. He never got to attend any of the Falcon games. He also liked going to work with Sara at Name Droppers. He held the fort down in the back room, watching TV and reading the dictionary.
John is survived by his wife Sara Ferguson and their son Jay and his wife Diana, of Round Rock, TX. He is also survived by a grandson, Jarek Ferguson and two granddaughters, Ashley Ragan and Bailey Ignasiak and husband and three great granddaughters.; also, nephews Roy Alford of Toledo Bend, TX, David Alford of Rusk, TX and niece Arlicia Netto of Hockley, TX.
He was a member of Crossroads Fellowship Church. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Crossroads Fellowship Church with Reverend David Newton officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
