J. Cecil Hext, age 90, was born July 16, 1918 to Kelse and Beulah Hext in Alanreed, TX and went home to be with the Lord on May 2, 2009. He spent his school years in Lefors, TX, where he graduated from high school. He married Mildred A. McPherson on July 16, 1938 and they resided in Pampa, TX. Cecil entered the Marine Corp. in 1943 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked for Phillips Petroleum in the Texas Panhandle until being transferred to Odessa, TX in 1949. Cecil later went on to work for Lewie Montgomery Trucking Company. In 1983, he retired as General Manager after 28 years of service. Upon retirement, he and Mildred moved to Okmulgee, OK, where they lived until returning to Odessa in 1996.
Cecil was a devoted husband and father and a dedicated, hard-working employee. He loved spending time with his family and playing games with his grandchildren. He found great enjoyment in gardening, yard work and fishing. Cecil lived his life dedicated to his savior, Jesus Christ and served the Lord as a deacon in the Okmulgee Church of Christ. He and Mildred were long-time members of Eisenhower Church of Christ in Odessa.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Mildred A. Hext, son Billy R. Hext, son-in-law, Joe Williams, grandson, Joe Williams, Jr., and four brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by daughters Edna Williams of Kansas City, MO and Kay Murry and husband, Bob of Ranger, TX, daughter-in-law, Jane Hext of Odessa, grandchildren , Melinda Spencer and Susan Palmer of Midland, TX, Benjamin Williams of Kansas City, MO, Terry Dodd of Hereford, TX, Garry Murry of Lipan, TX, fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Visitation will be Monday, May 4 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Eisenhower Church of Christ with Burt Groves officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parks Methodist Retirement Village, 111 Parks Village Drive, Odessa, TX. 79765, Home Hospice, 516 North Texas Ave, Odessa, TX. 79761 or to a charity of your choice.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation and thanks to the staff at Parks Methodist Retirement Village where Mildred and Cecil have resided since 1996 and Home Hospice for the loving care he was given.
