John Lehr

John Richard Lehr, age 46, of Odessa, TX, passed away on April 15, 2018 in Odessa after a short illness.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa.

John was born to Richard and Margaret Lehr on January 9, 1972 in San Angelo, TX. He attended school at Goliad, Sam Houston, Hood, and finally Permian High School where he graduated in 1990. He also attended Odessa College before going to work with his dad at Oasis Weed Control.

John loved his parents, sister, brother-in-law and niece. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his cousins, April, Casey, Cole, Kagan, Weston, Will, Grant, and Abby. He cherished his time in Robert Lee fishing and hanging out with his friends and family. He loved his niece, Finley Kyle with all of his heart. She brought him joy and enough memories to last a lifetime. His long-time companion and girlfriend, Jennifer Hutson was also a constant in his life and she was a part of the good times he was able to celebrate.

He loved animals- big, small, tame or wild, and he made friends with them all. Some of his other passions in life included music, cars and spending time with family. He loved to fish and appreciated the simple things in life. He enjoyed cooking for and eating with friends and family.

We will miss him, especially his contagious laugh and his ability to make friends anywhere with almost anyone. John believed that everything on this Earth serves a purpose and now he has served his.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, R.L. and Evelyn Flanagan, his Uncle Randy Flanagan, and his cousin Casey Flanagan.

He is survived by his parents, Richard and Margaret Lehr of Odessa, sister and brother in law, Ellen and Shawn Smith, niece, Finley Smith of Odessa, and his girlfriend, Jennifer Hutson of Grandbury, his paternal grandparents, Michael and Francine Lehr, and Sally Lehr of San Angelo. John will also be missed by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The family extends a special thanks to John's dear friend, Dewayne Louder for his loyalty, friendship and love. He was present during John's illness and throughout his life and provided the family with much comfort.

The family is suggesting that memorial contributions be made to animal charities and rescues or a charity of choice.
