John Worthen passed away Friday, November 27, 2015, at the age of 86.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00pm, Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm at Sherwood Baptist Church on Friday, December 4, 2015, with Reverend Ivy Shelton, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and four sisters and was the last of 9 children to pass.
John was born and raised in Marlin, TX. He graduated from Marlin High School in 1947. He joined the US Army in 1948, served as an MP (Military Police) and was discharged in May of 1950. He met his wife, Marie, and they married December 31, 1949, after corresponding via letters while he was in the service. After moving to Odessa in 1966, he was the owner of Million Truck Parts for over 40 years. John, or A.J., loved to fish and hunt and was an avid bowler. He loved to play 42, read westerns and do word search puzzles. He was also known as "Big John" and never met a stranger. He was a Christian and he and Marie were members of Crescent Park Baptist Church. In later years, he loved woodworking. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and would do anything for any of them.
John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marie and their four children, Sherry Pierson and her husband Larry of Lubbock, TX, Russell Worthen and his wife Brenda of Odessa, TX, Gayle Boyd and her husband Larry of Victoria, TX, and Kay St. Louis and her husband Laurent of Odessa, TX; 10 grandchildren, Randy Pierson, Natalie Chapman and her husband Jeff, Morgan Matula and her husband Will, Natalie Branecky and her husband Shane, Jarrod Boyd and his wife Amy, Marci Rojas and her husband Aaron, Scott St. Louis and his wife Amy, Nick Worthen, Adam St. Louis and his wife Michelle, and Karli St. Louis; 15 great-grandchildren, Meghan Pierson, Kierstin Chapman, MaKenzie Pierson, Hannah Chapman, Aubrey Moler, Madison and Lauren Matula, Rylee Boyd, Ava Branecky, Landon Rojas, Addyson Chapman, Emme Branecky, Jacob Rojas, Camden Boyd, and Gage St. Louis.
