Johnny Mcclellan

Johnny B. McClellan, age 84, of Midland passed away Friday, August 26, 2011 in Midland.

He was born November 11, 1926 in Gorman, Texas to Robert Henson McClellan and Birdie Illa Joiner McClellan.

Johnny spent most of his school years in Graham, Texas where he graduated from high school. He was a talented athlete especially in basketball and football. When he graduated high school, being too young to join the military, he attended Texas Tech University on a football scholarship. After one semester in college Johnny joined the Navy, where he served from October of 1944 to August of 1946. He served aboard the USS Trousdale as a radar man 3rd class. Just as they were preparing to raid Japan, the War ended. Johnnys reasoning for joining the navy was, Because it appeared to be easier to sail around the world than to walk around the world.

On April 5, 1952 in Levelland, Texas, J.B. married the love of his life, Bonnie Strickland. J.B. and Bonnie have three children: Johnny B., Gregory Lynn, and Patti Ann. J.B. worked most of his professional career as a Petroleum Engineer for Mobil Oil. He was also a member of the Texas Board of Professional Engineers. In his work with Mobil OilAramco in Saudi Arabia, J. B. and Bonnie were able to do mission work there, and in many countries including Romania, India, and Guayana.

J. B. is survived by his wife, Bonnie McClellan of Midland sons Johnny McClellan and wife Kay of Boerne, Texas, Gregory McClellan and wife Connie of Midland, Texas daughter Patti Scott and husband Jerry of Houston 5 grandchildren 3 great grandchildren and sister Wanda Jones of Fort Worth, Texas.

J. B. was preceded in death by his sister Oma Mae Hughes and brother Alvin McClellan.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00PM8:00PM Monday, August 29, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home in Odessa. Services are scheduled for 10:00AM Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Fairmont Park Church of Christ in Midland with Don Mitchell and Scott Shepard officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.
