Johnny Weems

Johnny Carl Weems, 81, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009 in Odessa.

He was born July 2, 1928 in Dublin, Texas to Whit Weems and Nell Weems. He was raised in Dublin. He worked as a brakeman for the railroad prior to entering the U.S. Army in June 1949. He married Joyce Laverne Wright in Hamilton, Texas on September 17, 1949. After serving in the U.S. Army he was discharged in October 1951. The couple moved to Odessa in the mid 1950s and he began a career in the oil industry, working for several trucking companies prior to joining Lewie Montgomery Trucking for thirty years. He loved to fish, to be with his dog and he was an avid sports fan for any sport.

He is preceded in death by his wife Joyce on October 19, 2004; his brothers, L.G. Weems and Ralph Weems and a sister, Lillian Preston.

Survivors include his sons, Carl Wayne Weems and his wife Janice, Kenneth Dale Weems, and Cecil Glenn Weems, all of Odessa; a daughter, Marilyn Diane Randall and husband Bruce of Odessa; grandchildren, Dillan Weems and wife Rebecca, Carly Collins and husband Justin, Rachel Slaymaker and husband Adrain, Jeff Whaley and wife Amanda, Jennifer Weems and Shawn, Steven Clemmer and wife Kristi, Cody Clemmer, Rachel Randall, and Brooke Randall; great grandchildren, Nikola Niky Weems, Noah Slaymaker, and Brendyn Whaley; sisters, Doris Gray of Merkle, Texas and Jean Thiebaud of Dublin, Texas.

Visitation with the family will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Monday, December 14, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
