Joyce Halsey Burkholder, 90, passed away December 10, 2013 in Odessa, Texas. Joyce was born to Mark and Esther Halsey on July 29, 1923 in Belton, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Joyce was a native of Lubbock, Texas where she was a Life Member of the Texas PTA member of Westminister Presbyterian Church, and a 14 year Camp Fire leader.
Joyce moved to El Paso in 1978. There she was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon, Elder and Moderator of Presbyterian Women. She was past president of Church Women United and served on the Presbyterian Foundation.
Professionally Joyce served as Executive Director of PanhandleWest Texas Council of the American Heart Association for 15 years before retiring in 1988.
Survivors include daughters Bridget Lyon P.A. and Benay Welsh Bob, four grandchildren Houston Lyon Erin, Carson Lyon, Megan Gossett Cobb Cory, and Jessica Gossett SillsBrian and 6 great grandchildren Laney Cobb, Jake Cobb, Haddie Cobb, Boone Sills, Case Sills and Ryder Sills.
In lieu of flowers family suggest donations be made to the American Heart Association or First Presbyterian Church of El Paso, Texas.
The family would like to thank Dr. J.B. Naidu for always being there for our mom and to Comfort Keepers, Darlene, Amy and Carmen who were a blessing to our family.
