Joyce Gayle Hicks, 83 yrs. old, passed away at Medical Center Hospital on the evening of January 15, 2012 from a lengthy illness.
Gayle was born in Houston, TX to Walter Haskell and Era Lucille Hicks on October 6, 1928. He attended and graduated school in Mullin, TX. Gayle married Lois Nell Williams on July 15, 1957.
Gayle, also known as Daddy and Papaw was an intelligent and witty man with a wonderful personality and loved to entertain by just being silly. The caption under his picture in his HS yearbook read Tall, Dark, and Amusing. He truly loved his entire family and liked everyone he ever met.
Gayle lived in Odessa for many years where he was selfemployed in the oilfield until he retired and he and Lois moved to their farm outside of Brownwood where they built their dream home and lived there happily for 26 years. They recently moved back to Odessa to be near family.
Gayle is preceded in death by his father and mother.
He is survived by his wife Lois, his children, Brenda Vaughan, Walter Hicks, Charles Hicks, Velva McKee and his stepchildren, Martha Moore, Jerry Chancy, James Chancy and Leslie Chancy. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Charles Hicks, Walter Hicks, and sister Annette Hammet.
Services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
