Joyce Thomas Kruschke, 90 of Odessa died December 30, 2017 in Portales, NM.
Funeral service will be 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Chapel with Joe Kelting officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Joyce was born as Joyce A. Thomas on April 16, 1927 in Archer County, TX to Buford Alfred Thomas and Emma Ruff Jordan. She met her husband Marvin Kruschke in Wichita Falls, TX and married on July 5, 1942. Joyce was 15 when she wed and was the youngest officer wife on all the military bases that Marvin and she were stationed at. She had Marv, Jr. (Bay) at the age of 17 and Marilyn at 20. During their military and oilfield careers she lived in 35 different locations across the United States.
Joyce became a beautician in 1955 while living in Hobbs, NM. After her husband was transferred to McCamey, TX they welcomed their 3rd child Merry Media (Dia). Joyce owned A' Joy's Beauty Shop in McCamey from 1961-1965.
Her house was open to everyone and all in her life enjoyed her great hospitality. She never met a stranger and was a foster parent to many children. She helped establish R & R Industries while living in Farmington, NM. Joyce along with her husband, invented numerous oil field service devices resulting in one standing patent. Joyce was greatly loved and the family and friends that shared in her journey are forever blessed for knowing her.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years, Marvin Kruschke, Sr., son Marvin Kruschke, Jr (Bay), grandson Marvin Kruschke III (Ryan), granddaughter Jennifer Janell Kelting, son-in-law Lewis L. Jones and 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
She is survived by her daughters Marilyn Jones of Odessa, TX, Dia Kelting and her husband Joe of Portales, NM; Grandchildren: Joyce Jones, Jim and his wife Kay Jones, James Jones, Josh Kruschke, Scott Kruschke, Joey Kruschke, Edna Ann Smith, Hobie Kelting, Darin Lopez, Abel Lopez and Abraham Anchondo; Great grandchildren Kristin Beal and her husband Mathew, Alison Hernandez and her husband Marc, Austin Jones and his wife Morgan, Elizabeth Kruschke, Samantha Kruschke, Zoey Smith, Tyler Jones, Cody Jones and Samira Jones; Great- great grandchild Luke Hernandez.
Honorary Pall bearers: Joyce Jones, Jim Jones, James Jones, Josh Kruschke, Scott Kruschke, Joey Kruschke, Edna Ann Smith, Hobie Kelting, Darien Lopez, Abel Lopez, Abraham Anchondo.
