Joyce Mcafee

Joyce Loraine McAfee, 84, joined her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 21, 2012, in Odessa, TX.

Funeral services will be at Bethel Assembly of God Church in Odessa on Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. with John Van Hoose officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa.

Joyce was born on February 16, 1928, in Cordell, Oklahoma to Sanford and Ludie McElroy. She met and fell in love with Raymond Earl Pete McAfee while visiting her sister Christine in Andrews, Texas. Christine was married to Petes oldest brother Roy Lee McAfee. Although both sides of the family were skeptical about their prospects of a successful marriage, Pete and Joyce were married on February 14, 1948 in Antioch, California, and enjoyed 64 wonderful years together. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in February of 2013. Their marriage was based on unconditional love and commitment.

Growing up during the depression, they did not always have the best of everything, but they always made the best of what they had and passed that important principle on to their children. They raised their three children to value what really matters in life faith, freedom, family, and friends.

Joyce was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Odessa for more than 50 years and was active in the Womens Ministry and Bible Study Groups. She loved God and her family first and foremost, but tried not to miss any opportunity to show Gods love and kindness to others whether she knew them or not. She had a passion for reading and spent many happy hours with good books.

While we rejoice that she is no longer suffering and has been reunited with her Heavenly Father and family members who have gone before, we grieve for the joy and comfort she brought to our earthly lives. We miss her and look forward to the day when we will see her again.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Sanford and Ludie McElroy three brothers: Haskell McElroy, Oather McElroy, and Archie McElroy and six sisters: Wilma Van Winkle, Icy Weir, Helen Cogburn, Christine McAfee, Martha McElroy, and Ailene Williams.

She is survived by her husband Raymond Earl Pete McAfee of Odessa, TX 3 children: Zena Wood and her husband Bob of Sherman, TX James Robert Bob McAfee and his wife Allie of Odessa, TX Gary McAfee of Odessa, TX 5 grandchildren: Tim Boyer Leigh Ann of Irving, TX Michael Boyer Karina of Juneau, AK Peter McAfee Joy of Medford, OR Daniel McAfee of Odessa and Chad McAfee of Odessa 7 greatgrandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
