Joyce Mcdonald

Joyce Elaine Miller McDonald, a longtime resident of Odessa, TX passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. She was born on April 12, 1931 to Edward and Vada Miller in Pettis County, Missouri. She grew up in Tulsa, OK and then moved with her parents and brother, Edward Miller Jr to Odessa, TX. She graduated from high school at Odessa High School in 1949. She married her husband, William D. McDonald on September 22, 1954. Together they raised three beautiful children, Bobby Landers, Michael McDonald, and Vicki Abney. She also took great pride in raising her nephews, Eddie and Tommy Miller. She lived in El Paso, TX for many years and then returned to Odessa in the early 70's and remained until her death.

She was an Enrolled Agent and prepared Federal and State income taxes and bookkeeping for H&R Block for over 40 years. Also at one time was the owner of McDonald Tax and Bookkeeping here in Odessa. She was top tax writer for 7 years in the state of Texas and was loved and treasured not only by her clients but her fellow tax preparers. She found true passion and joy in what she did and felt that every client mattered as if it was her own return or that of a family member.

After the death of her husband, William D. McDonald on July 29, 1980, she dedicated her life to her children and her beloved grandchildren. She never missed a baseball game, gymnastics meet, awards ceremonies and spent every free moment, when not preparing taxes or playing Bridge with her loving friends, being the best Mother and Grandmother that anyone could ever ask for.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, husband, her three children and nephew Tommy Miler, Great Nephew Tommy Joe Miller and best friend for over 50 years Pearl Curry.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Mike Abney and wife Christy of Wichita Falls, TX, Jason Landers, Kris Landers, David Landers and his wife Samantha, Christi Drake and husband Brandon, and Shawn McDonald all of Odessa, TX; her great-grandchildren, Lyndon, Hailee, Lainey, and Garrett Abney, Kristoffer and Emily Landers, Greyson Landers,Taylur and McKynzie Patterson and Brandon Drake and her great great granddaughter, Camrynn Abney; her nephew, Eddie Miller and daughter Tiffany McHenry. Also her loving children's surviving spouses, Gary Abney, Vicky Landers, and Debbie McDonald.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa, TX.
