Odessa

Julia Ann Schulte Yates passed away November 16, 2020, at the home of her sister, where she and R.C. lived, in Odessa, Texas.  She was 90.

Ann was born in Springfield, Illinois on October 14, 1930 to Joe and Jane Potter Schulte.  They moved to East Texas, where she was raised as a child and attended local schools in Arp, Texas.

Ann would take the train to Virginia, Illinois in the summer, where she would stay with her grandmother, Ellen Potter and cousins and friends.

In the summer of 1945, she met R.C. Yates.  They would date during the summertime for each summer she returned.

Ann and her sister, Verna, and their mother and stepfather, Chester File, moved to Odessa, Texas from East Texas.  Ann graduated from Odessa High School in 1947.

The family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas the next day, where Ann went to a business school and worked for a lawyer.  She lived there until she moved to Virginia, Illinois in 1949.

Ann and R.C. Yates were married on October 8, 1950 and lived in Peoria, Ill., where R.C. worked at Caterpillar.  They moved back to Virginia, Ill., in 1951.  Ann gave birth to Douglas Clark on October 1, 1951.  Verna Joyce was born March 17, 1955.  Ann and R.C. asked Ann’s father, Joe Schulte to live with them, which he did until he passed away.

Ann worked at the Petefish Skiles and CO. bank for 12 plus years.  In 1978, they moved to Jacksonville, Illinois, where Ann worked for a local bank and they lived there until 1980.  Then they moved to San Benitio, Texas, in the Rio Grand Valley, until 1987.  Ann worked at the First National Bank and became Vice President of Operations.  They moved back to Corpus Christi in October in 1987.  Ann worked at a local bank until she retired.  She and R.C. lived there for 31 years at the Gateway Mobile Home Community.

Due to their age and health, Ann and R.C. moved to Odessa, Texas, to live with Ann’s sister, Verna Headlee.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents; stepfathers; her daughter, Joyce Yates Covington; her son, Doug Yates; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ann leaves behind her husband, R.C.; her sister, Verna Headlee; nieces and nephews; grandsons, Casey Yates and Ryan Yates; granddaughter, Tayna Elizabeth Yates and her daughter in law, Yolanda Yates; six step-grandchildren, Jason Muth, Jackie Gibson, Jason Covington, Jennifer Covington, Bridgett Griffin, and Shannon Griffin; as well as many friends.
