Julius "Leo" Jones, of Odessa, TX, passed away on November 23, 2016 in Odessa, TX.

Visitation will be 4:00 - 6:00 PM, Monday 28, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM Tuesday 29, 2016 at Odessa, TX with Clydel Chapman of Northside Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

Leo was born in State Line MS to Julius Brown Jones and Sallye Smith Jones on July 10, 1924. He went to school at County Line School and State Line High School, MS. He worked on the farm, in logging, and dry goods/grocery store. He registered for military service his senior year and was inducted into the Navy at Camp Shelby MS in 1943 and then went to San Diego for Boot Camp. He was then assigned to the Naval Armed Guard and went through Gunnery School. The Naval Armed Guard was stationed on Liberty Ships protecting the supplies for our troops manning 20MM and 5" Guns. Leo crossed the Pacific (3) times, the Atlantic (3) times and the Mediterranean Sea once and the Indian Ocean once. After military service Leo started in the Oil Field in Florida and then followed the industry to Rankin TX. Leo worked as a roughneck and driller then moved into Plant construction and finally went to work for Ref-Chem retiring from Rexene.

Leo married Rachael Ann Smith on December 30, 1952 in Leakesville, MS. Leo attended Northside Baptist Church with his family for over 50 years. Leo loved his family, his church family, and friends. Once Leo introduced himself to you he would know if you were married, had any children, what church you attend and if you knew the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior. Always a smile and a handshake for friends, loved ones, and new acquaintances.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, his sweet heart Rachael, their daughter Betty Louise Jones, sisters Mellanie Jones, Delphia Boyles, Octavia Letchworth, & Geneva Haugh.

Leo is survived by his Children: Sallye & Danny Downs, Julia & Kelly Luxton, Barbara & Wayne Edwards, and Martin & Karen Jones, sisters Elena Smith of Mobile AL., Alva Burney of Jackson MS, and brother Robert Jones of Mobile AL. Grand Children: Clint Shanks, Sarah White, John Shanks, Angie Jolly, Jesse Luxton, Christopher Jones, Caitlin Jones, and Carrie Jones. Great Grand Children: Bailee Shanks, Tatum Luxton, Colby Jolly, Mara White, Emory White, and Jhett Luxton.

Pallbearers will be Clint Shanks, Michael Jolly, Jess Luxton, Tatum Luxton, Colby Jolly, and Bradley Crawford.

Memorials may be given to the Northside Baptist Church.
