Karen Carnes, 68, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on Thursday February 9, 2017.
Funeral and graveside service will be Monday February 13, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home with Brother Mike Dennis officiating
Karen was born and adopted in Denver, Colorado by Mike and Helen Mikesell on June 4, 1948. She eventually relocated to Midland along with her parents and graduated from Lee High School in 1966. She then attended Sul Ross University, graduated with a Business Degree in 1970. Then, thanks to a lifechanging blind date, she met her future husband, Tony. The couple were later married on December 18, 1970 and shortly afterwards, blessed with two children Chris and Candy.
Karen enjoyed family and friends, bible studies, parenting, crafts, sharing her faith, and capturing beautiful sunset pictures. She was a front-line warrior for Jesus and her faith was brilliantly evident during her labored journey with ALS.
Karen is preceded in death by her mother, Helen Mikesell; then her father, Mike Mikesell.
Karen is survived by her husband of 46 years, Tony Carnes; son, Chris Carnes; daughter, Candy Carnes; brother, Ken Mikesell; granddaughter, Breanne Carnes; sister in laws, Jane Ulrich, Dixie Light and their families; and brother-in law, Mike Carnes, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Karen, KK, or mom was, and still is, such a blessing to anyone who met her and had the privilege of spending any amount of time together. She knew unconditional love, firm commitment, she knew her Savior and urged everyone around her to get on board.
She knew where she was going and wants to greet us all there someday.
Funeral Services will be at 4:00 pm, Monday, February 13, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Home Hospice nurses and all the family support provided.
