Katherine Louise Wood passed away peacefully at her home in Odessa, Texas, on October 4, 2015. She was born June 22, 1925, in Spur, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Mattie and Daniel Ince.
She graduated from Spur High School and from Texas Tech University. Louise was a remarkable woman with an enterprising spirit. She attended college and earned a baccalaureate degree during a time when higher education was still somewhat considered a privilege mostly reserved for males.
In 1946 she married her high school sweetheart, Clay. Louise and Clay began their lives together in Penwell, Texas. Over the next 69 years of marriage the couple shared challenging yet exciting and rewarding times. Together, they built an outstanding business enterprise, while always making time to teach and inspire future generations.
Louise Wood's passion was her family. She was a grand and classy woman. She held the family together like mortar applied to stone. No matter the circumstances she maintained self-control. Louise led by example with grace, dignity, warmth, and humor. Even in her last difficult days she never relinquished her role as superior wife, mother, and homemaker.
Louise was an accomplished and tenacious bridge player. In earlier years she was an avid golfer, Sunday school teacher, and community activist. In short, she was a well-rounded individual and giver of her time and talents. She enjoyed all of her activities with her many friends.
Louise was an angel here on earth. Her kindness will be missed by all of us she touched. We will remember her warmth, positive outlook on life and the ever-present smile. She will live on in our hearts and minds forever.
Louise is survived by her husband, Clay, and their three sons; Gregory (Vicki), Jack (Sheri) and Don (Tanya). Additionally, Louise is survived by her grandchildren; Matthew, Kirby, Taylor, Jordan, and Rachel.
A private funeral will be held. The family wishes to thank the individuals who cared for Louise during the last few months. Special love and gratitude go to Annie Mendez, Joe Chapa, and Mary Blain. We also want to acknowledge our dear family friend, Abdul Kadir. Memorials may be made to The Bridge Building Fund (First United Methodist Church), 415 N Lee, Odessa, TX 79761.
